Chimney Repairs FAQs
What is chimney flaunching?
It is the mortar cap that holds the pots and sheds water off the top of the stack. When it cracks, water gets in, so renewing it is a common part of a chimney repair.
Why is there damp on my chimney breast?
It is usually failed flashing or washed-out pointing letting water into the stack, which then tracks down inside the wall. Putting the leadwork and brickwork right stops it at source.
Can you take down a chimney we no longer use?
Yes. We can remove a redundant stack to roof level or below and make the roof watertight where it stood.
My chimney is leaning, can it be saved?
Often it needs rebuilding from the point where the mortar has failed. We assess it and explain honestly whether a rebuild or a full removal is the better option.
Do you fit chimney cowls?
Yes. Cowls help keep out rain and birds and can assist with draught or damp problems. We fit the type that suits what you need.
